[Help] Username for SMTP server. Only enter a username if it is required by the SMTP

hi all i have one problem on my forum wen you go finish to registed it say
Error: Could not connect to smtp host "[email protected]" (18) ().

Im not sure, i think this means, that smtp is not started on windowslive.com (198.247.174.88), so i scanned the IP without pinging and i saw that there's only skype (p 433) and site - apache (p 80) running, but no smtp... So i think that it could be POP or IMAP (the mail protocol) --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Mail_Transfer_Protocol
